Step 4
We are now in the Tone mapping section.

First of all you will see a tabbed section with
Mantiuk, Fattal, Drago etc. This is our choice of Tone map methods. I like to use Fattal which we shall use today, so click on FATTAL.

We shall keep the picture small for the moment, so leave size as is. Larger pictures take longer to render. Expect long renders.

Now click on APPLY.

A small picture will appear that looks pretty good. But as far as I know, unlike the other tone map methods Fattal is size sensitive. This means when we enlarge the render size it wont look like this.

This is what it looks like on full size (This picture has been reduced for showing). Its a little too noisy, bright and flat.

So now we have to tweak the Fattal settings.

We just need to concentrate on the Alpha and Beta channels. For me its a question of trial and error to get the result that works for me. I found Alpha 0.281 and Beta 0.900 was good.

I found that when I reduced the Colour Saturation It produced lots of blue speckles, so any de saturation on this project is best done on a separate program afterwards.

Now click on APPLY.

As you can see it looks too dark and not that good on small size.

Set the picture size to max and click APPLY.

When its finished rendering check it looks good and click on SAVE AS... Save your picture to wherever and thats it.

Heres the finished Picture.

One more thing. Due to having to be aligned you will end up with strange lines and stuff at the edges were the pictures didn't fit together properly, so you will need to crop these out if you wish.

Hope this was helpful, have fun.
