HDR stands for high
dynamic range. This
is achieved by taking 3 or more photographs with
different exposures and using a HDR program to combine them
together. A good program for this is a free program called Qtpfsgui which can be
found here:Qtpfsgui Download.I shall show you a step by step tutorial using Qtpfsgui (I know what your thinking, what kind of name is that?). OK,
so this is a basic idiots guide to HDR creation. I don t explain every
setting in the program because I don t know what everything does
myself. Half the fun is discovering stuff for yourself, so enjoy. I
used Qtpfsgui version 1.9.1 for this tutorial so the settings are
different to 1.9.2 or 1.9.3. Version 1.9.3 does not work on my
computer as of yet.
Step 1For
this tutorial you will need three photographs. You can download these
pictures I took in the Duke pub in Bristol (Great pub). Just click on
the link below: Zipped Pictures.
Unzip the pictures and place them somewhere you can find later. Step 2Now startup Qtpfsgui.

Click on New HDR...

A new window will open.

Click
on LOAD IMAGES and select and load the three images. The files will
appear in the window with the exposures listed. The exposures are
needed so if they don t appear you will have to work out what they are
and input them manually.

If
your pictures were taken on a tripod you shouldn't need Auto Alignment.
If they were taken by hand like mine were then you need to click the
box to align. Click NEXT to continue, be warned alignment takes awhile
so sit back and be patient, the pictures I provided have been reduced
to save time for this tutorial so it should take around half a minute
give or take.
